Your Committee

Our PTA committee consists of 4 Officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary). We also have between 10 and 25 other ordinary committee members to make up the full committee.

The committee meet on a regular basis, usually once or twice per half term, with smaller working groups meeting as necessary to organise larger more complicated events. The committee is open to all parents and you can come to any meeting, you don’t have to have any official role.

Debbie Loftus, PTA Chair
Debbie Loftus, Current Chairperson
Chair

The role of the chairperson is to chair and guide the committee meetings. It is also to liase with the committee, staff and parents, to agree the spending of the monies raised through various fundraising activities. Personally it is a very rewarding position to hold and I enjoy seeing the great purchases PTA money helps the school to make. If you feel that you would like to take on this role then please come and see me or email chair@stjosephs-pta.co.uk.

Jackie Heaven, PTA Vice Chair
Jackie Heaven, Current Vice Chair
Vice Chair

The role of the vice chair is to support the chair in all aspects of their role. They will chair any meetings that the vice chair is unable to attend and be involved in, or liaise with the committee and subcommittees organising events.

Taking on this role is a fantastic way to be involved in providing for our children's school and a great way of meeting new friends.

Treasurer

The Treasurer's role is to keep the finances of the PTA in good order. The treasurer has to issue any cheques, which must be countersigned by the chair and cash cheques and cash received. At PTA functions it is the Treasurer's duty to issue floats and cash up at the end of the event. A full annual report must be submitted at every AGM and a formal audit must be undertaken every 3 years. In addition interim reports are given at every 1/2 termly meeting.

Secretary

The role of secretary of the PTA is quite simple. I send out agendas for the committee meetings about a week before the meeting. I also have to attend the meetings to take notes and then send them to everyone on the PTA mailing list. The meetings are usually only once every 1/2 term, so it’s not too much work. It’s good to have a deputy or vice secretary who can take notes if you’re not able to make a meeting. I also usually write and send out the newsletter. Again this is only once every 1/2 term and it doesn’t have to be done by the secretary, but it’s a good idea if it’s someone who attends the meetings, so they know what’s going on. If anyone is interested in becoming secretary or vice secretary I’d be happy to chat about it.
